Australian artists have unveiled a captivating new immersive educational experience that fuels student creativity and fosters global co-creation while emphasizing the connection to the environment. Powered by iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, this experience, called Deep Field, introduces an immersive augmented reality (AR) adventure that enables students and families worldwide to engage in real-time collaboration, reimagining their surroundings collectively. Presently, Deep Field can be enjoyed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney and the Getty Center in Los Angeles.
To participate in Deep Field, users begin by utilizing iPad Pro and Apple Pencil to draw their own unique flora and fauna. These designs are then contributed to a global database, where they merge with other users’ creations to form an entirely new ecosystem. Leveraging the LiDAR Scanner on iPad Pro, users witness their artwork come to life as magnificent 3D plant structures, gracefully traversing floors, walls, and ceilings.
The experience is further enriched by an immersive multichannel soundscape created by acclaimed audio naturalist Martyn Stewart, featuring the calls of forgotten and extinct species. This captivating audio backdrop enhances the appreciation for the diverse symphony of the natural world.
Deep Field serves as a powerful conduit for people to connect with nature and each other while emphasizing the urgent need for environmental preservation. Plans are underway to bring this extraordinary experience to other cities across the globe in the forthcoming months.
